At Barkly Highway State School, the Special Education Program (SEP) is dedicated to supporting the educational needs of students in the classroom alongside their peers.

The SEP teachers and teacher-aides work alongside classroom teachers to ensure that all students, including students with disability can access, participate and succeed in education on the same basis as other students.

Our inclusive school community supports diversity and sustains a supportive environment where all students feel a sense of belonging. A whole-school approach to planning for learning, teaching and assessment meets the needs of all students. It is recognised that some students will require additional targeted educational support to meet their needs. These students are supported through the full array of student support services.

Students who have specialised educational support needs may be eligible for additional targeted resources if they are identified as meeting criteria for one of six Education adjustment program (EAP) disability categories of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Impairment, Physical Impairment, Speech-Language Impairment and Vision Impairment.

Collaboration with parents/carers is an important part of the process of identifying and responding to the individual needs of students.
